Spring Break May 2022 – Raven Hall Hotel, Ravenscar
After more than a 2 year wait 47 members of our u3a were able to enjoy the Spring break postponed from March 2020, everything was very well organised starting with a short walk through Forge Valley followed be an excellent lunch at Betton Farm before checking into Ravenhall.
Breakfast was the usual buffet style and at this time orders were submitted for our evening meal - a difficult choice from their extensive menu.
The walkers had a full itinerary; the first day to Robin Hoods Bay via Boggle Hole, the second to Hayburn Wyke, finally breaking the journey home a picturesque walk at Thornton le dale with lunch at The Tea Cosy.
Mainly a holiday for Bridge / card players who had free days to explore / relax before some serious play in the evenings. The non players had fun in the hotel lounge with quizzes and games.
Although the cliff walking was a little breezy we had some lovely sunny spells and didn't get wet - therefore a very enjoyable, UK break. Marion Dawson.
u3a Choir — Diane Ford’s Last Concert
The choir gave a concert of English music in June as part of our u3a Thursday afternoon programme. This
was Diane Ford’s last concert with the choir. Diane led the choir for 22 years and introduced members to a
wide range of music. During that time the choir gave many concerts, several being in aid of local charities.
Diane also made a significant contribution to the national u3a in the role of subject advisor for singing
and playing for 20 years.
The concert was enjoyed by u3a members and Diane appreciated seeing some former members of the choir in the audience.
The afternoon ended with tea and a celebration cake.
We were all sorry to see Diane leave and she’ll be greatly missed.
The choir will continue under the leadership of Gill Barker. We meet on the first and third Thursday of the
month at 3.30 in St Barnabas Church Hall. There are vacancies for sopranos, tenors and basses. If you are
interested please get in touch. Brenda Wilson
